The cycle showcases the finesse and musicality of the legendary Gewandhaus Orchestra--from the Haydnesque elegance of the first two symphonies, to the grandeur and drama of the choral Ninth Symphony. This five CD set of the nine Symphonies also includes selected Beethoven Overtures, and comes for an initial period in substantial and luxurious /5().

2. On the whole, This may be my favorite collection of all nine Beethoven symphonies. As a bonus, you also get Beethoven's lovely Violin Concerto played by Isaac Stern with Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic. While others may favor Jascha Heifetz, I've always loved Stern's full, warm and Romantic tone, best of all/5(88).

4. This set of Beethoven’s Nine Symphonies performed by George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra and recorded between 19has enjoyed classic status for decades. And well it should! There isn’t a less-than-excellent performance among these five Sony discs, and most are stellar/5().

8. It contains all Beethoven's Symphonies and Overtures Rosbaud has recorded for the SWR, among them two different versions of the 8th Symphony. There are however no recordings of the 8th and the 4th. Additionally, famous interpreters Ginette Neveu and Géza Anda are to be heard on this album with the Violin Concert, respectively with the Piano.
